company comparison

Tale of tales

Tale of tales is a small games development studio they have produced a range of games, unlike your mainstream company they do not produce every day games that we might be familiar with. They have tried to develop games that will give the player a completely different and innovative way of playing video games. They use narrative from old versions of children’s stories like little red riding hood, sleeping beauty etc. unlike the versions we might have heard as children these versions seem to be a lot darker in the narrative and overall atmosphere of the game. The company was founded in Belgium by Auriea Harvey & MichaĆ«l Samyn, they are the directors and designers as well as owning the company itself. For the other roles in the creation of the games they hire freelancers to collaborate on the game, roles such as: character designer, animator, music composer, sound effects, sound design, programmer, concept artist, character models and textures, 3D assets and game play design.

Their first game is called 8; it is basically a re-telling of the story sleeping beauty. The game is not linier, which seems to be a running theme within the company’s games as well as being quite poetic in its story telling.

Activision

Unlike Tale of tales Activision are publishers not so much developers. They are a mainstream company that buy out smaller games companies who are developing games that might not be noticed much and put there names on them, this gets the game more publicity and if the games are successful Activision will get a lot of the credit for the game, they tend to blame the producers and don’t take responsibility for the game. They do this to protect their own company, though it makes them seem like a very shallow company who use smaller companies to make them seem better. They tend to stick to well-known titles and AAA titles, they are very generic and don’t really do anything adventurous and creative, only sticking with what they know is safe, whereas Tale of Tales are creative and like to try new ideas.
